Traffic Signal FactsThe Electrical Division maintains 671 traffic signals and flashing beacons in the City of Oakland. The budget for this activity is $460,500 for energy and $1,177,000 for labor, materials, and equipment. There are 8.5 people assigned to the Traffic Signal Maintenance activity. The red and green traffic indicators where recently converted from incandescent lamps to energy efficient LEDs. The pedestrian signals were also converted to LEDs. Each intersection receives preventative maintenance on the controller once every 2 years to insure reliability and safe operation. When there is a problem with a traffic signal, either because of a traffic accident or other problem the Electrical Section responds within 2 hours; 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
